STORY

Constance Adler has been fighting her whole life. Always overshadowed by her popular and talented older sister, Constance takes out her frustrations on her neglectful hometown. Specifically, its pride and joy: prospective senator Robert Aikens, a local businessman who managed to help lift Mancha out of poverty. To Constance, the beloved Aikens is a symbol of everything that is wrong with the town, and she continually voices her frustration in more and more public acts of rebellion.

Our story starts with heartbreak when Constance’s older sister passes away suddenly. A reeling and devastated Constance is infuriated to find out that Robert Aikens is paying for the funeral. He is using her death as a publicity stunt. She can’t allow that.

At the same time Freddy, Robert Aiken’s young burnout son, clashes with Constance in an attempt to protect his father’s name and prove himself.

Their struggle intensifies as both refuse to back down, bit by bit drawing in the eccentric town. An animal obsessed veteran, a self deprecating Sheriff, a jovial local drunk and many more are all added to the brewing mess of characters. We’re in a pressure cooker. What will happen when Robert Aikens finally comes home?

DIRECTOR'S REEL

DIRECTORS STATEMENT

I love small towns. I grew up in a small town. The closeness. The characters. The natural intertwining of everyone’s paths. So much of humanity can be seen in that, which is why I’ve always gravitated to small-town stories.

HOME MADE REBELS is built off of my experiences in small towns, the personalities that I encountered, the people I loved, and the people I hated. Today we spend so much time masking our true selves. We separate our online identity, from our social identity, from our personal identity. It’s refreshing to go to a place where that is simply not possible.

Small towns are always in a state of conflict. Between modernizing and freezing in time. Between the old guard and the new. Between neighbors over zoning lines and bargoers over careless words. A natural human viciousness becomes apparent when all of the trappings of urban society are stripped away.

The story is also about youth. About friendship and betrayal. About growth. About growing up in a place that seems stagnant and small. About making stupid, hotheaded mistakes and then trying to make up for them. I hope that every person going into the theater will feel a sense of nostalgia for their own hometowns and their own childhoods, no matter where they came from.

This film is designed to be shot efficiently. It has been written with stunning yet accessible locations in mind, with thrilling, calculated moments of production value that otherwise would be impossible at our budget, and with a sizeable target audience who has proven they are excited to support movies. All that it is missing is you.
